Mitsubishi Electric supplies the world's first true high-definition indoor LED scoreboard

Verizon Center in Washington DC is set to score the ultimate arena experience by installing the latest indoor high-definition light emitting diode (LED) display scoreboard. ANC Sports Enterprises and Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision Systems will create, install and operate the world's first true high-definition LED centre-hung scoreboard. Verizon Center will also become the first arena to exclusively feature Diamond VisionTM LED fascia (ribbon displays), corner stat displays, and video boards driven by ANC Sports' patent pending VisionSOFT operating system.

"Arenas are being built all over the country and in order to compete, you need to be ahead of the curve," said Abe Pollin, Chairman of Washington Sports & Entertainment. "Partnering with ANC Sports and Mitsubishi Electric, who have created the first true high definition scoreboard, is a perfect example and we're excited to be able to expand our resume of firsts for sports and entertainment facilities."

The four high-definition Mitsubishi Electric Diamond VisionTM 6mm video screens will measure 4.4m high by 7.67m wide, providing fans with views of all the action - including video playback - with the highest clarity. In addition to the high-definition boards, the new scoreboard will also feature four 10mm 1.6m high by 7.77m wide LED video matrices and two 20mm LED rings. The four 10mm video matrices will display images with a clarity equalling that found on many primary arena video screens around the country, creating an incredible visual structure with the high-definition displays that will exhibit over 68 billion colors.

"Mitsubishi and ANC are committed to providing the premier signage systems in sports," said Mark Foster, general manager of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products' Diamond Vision Systems Division. "We are thrilled that Verizon Center will be the first arena to feature true high-definition video screens and our new Diamond Vision indoor fascia product."

Operated through ANC's unique VisionSOFT software application, the signage system is capable of exhibiting separate game prompts, statistics and 3D animation in real time to build an energetic environment throughout the arena.

"We are excited to partner with Washington Sports & Entertainment in delivering a one-of-a-kind event experience at Verizon Center," said Jerry Cifarelli, President and Chief Executive Officer of ANC Sports Enterprises. "The Diamond Vision high-definition video boards and new fascia product will provide the city of Washington, D.C. with spectacular video and the most vibrant images possible. Combining Mitsubishi's technology with ANC's revolutionary software and graphic content will create visuals that indoor entertainment has never been able to feature before."

A renovation of the current LED boards and static fascia signage will also take place and involve the replacement of the existing signage with Mitsubishi's new 20mm Diamond Vision indoor fascia display. Over 300m of linear LED fascia will bring to life the entire upper level of the arena bowl, while over 120m of full motion signage will continue to animate the lower level of the arena bowl. Four additional LED displays will also light the top corners of the arena bowl with statistics, 3D graphics and advertisements, thus completing the entire digital display system.

Through a multi-year agreement with Washington Sports & Entertainment, ANC Sports will create statistical templates, sponsor content and team animations for the entire signage system.

The new scoreboard is set to debut this Autumn at a yet to be determined date.
